Job Description:
  • Assisting camp staff with coaching and teaching soccer to campers
  • Assist with equipment collection and maintenance (ie. inflating soccer balls, collecting cones)
  • Assist with supervising campers throughout the day
  • Help setup games and activities for campers
  • Maintain a clean camp environment; pick up all garbage
  • Helping to ensuring a safe environment for everyone and adhering to all safety protocols
  • Communicate any issues with camp staff and Supervisor
  • If applicable, help with changeroom and leisure swim supervision
  • General assistance around camp
  • Adhere to and help enforce all camp policies and procedures

Our camp runs from July 3 to September 1, 2023. They can volunteer for as little as 1 week or up to the full 9 weeks.

Applications are open for young, aspiring lawyers to take part in this year’s Cup.

High school students in Grade 10, 11 or 12 from all regions of B.C. are encouraged to participate.

The Barry Sullivan Law Cup is a province-wide public speaking competition for high school students to honour the memory of Barry Sullivan and his contributions to both the legal and educational professions. Finalists will be judged by legal and academic professionals, which have also included from previous years, Judges from the Courts in British Columbia and representatives from UBC and the media. Students in Grades 10, 11 and 12 from all regions of B.C. are encouraged to apply.

​The event will be divided into two parts: a Preliminary, where students will be divided into small groups to deliver their speeches to the preliminary judges, and the Final round, where a finalist per group will move forward to compete against a smaller group of participants to the championship judges.​

  • $21.00 / hour starting wage (can be increased with relevant experience and certifications)

To qualify as a swim instructor, students need to have the following certifications*:

  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C
  • National Lifeguard (optional)
  • Life Saving Instructor (optional)

*these certifications require that a participant is 15 years old prior to the last day of their course

  • Complete Swim Kids 10 and/or have completed their Bronze Cross

If applicants move onto the next stage, interviews will be held near the end of April where applicants can choose one of the three given days to participate. We are deciding whether or not to do it via zoom for the convenience for those with a busy schedule.

After the interview and applicants receive the opportunity to volunteer, the training will be held in late June. We expect the days to be 28th and 29th, similarly as mentioned above, volunteers can choose one of the two days to participate.​

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL

For: Students who are at least in Gr 10, preference will be given to Gr 11 and 12
Dates: May 30-Jun 4, 2023 and weeks prior to the event to help organize volunteers
Event location: Granville Island, Vancouver
Position: KEY VOLUNTEER

This position is an excellent opportunity for secondary students to gain experience in an arts organization and complete required work hours for career prep programs. It is also an opportunity to support and mentor others, and to bring joy to many children and adults in helping to create this amazing event. You will be expected to commit approx. 20 volunteer hrs. in the leadup to the Festival.

Guidelines and expectations of the position:

• Attend all monthly KV meetings, on Zoom or (when possible) at the Children’s Festival office on Granville Island

• Actively advertise and recruit fellow students to volunteer at the Festival through announcements, posters,   word-of-mouth, etc.

• Liaise with career prep/contact teacher to update progress and explore new ideas for recruiting volunteers

• Assist volunteers to apply online

• Set up meetings and interview fellow students at school to find appropriate volunteer positions at the Festival   (host, parking, face painting, administration, etc.)

• Input interview notes online (personality traits, interests and experience of each candidate you interviewed)

• Stay in touch with Festival staff by phone or email to update on progress at school

• Keep track of your hours advertising positions, recruiting volunteers and attending monthly KV meetings    (it is your responsibility to submit a timesheet to get your KV hours credited)

• Attend the Festival 2 days as a Volunteer or 3 days as a Host or apply for a Captain position if possible (5 days)

Place des Arts has many volunteer opportunities for youth and adults throughout the year. From working with children at art camps or helping at exhibitions, events or performances to sitting on our Board of Directors, we provide meaningful ways to get involved in the arts and contribute to the community.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be over the age of 13;
  • All applicants must attend an interview. Place des Arts will contact applicants to arrange interviews as applications are received;
  • Complete reference and criminal record checks. Volunteers over the age of 18 are required to complete a criminal record check.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

  • Community Events: Place des Arts participates in a variety of events out in the community, as well as at our centre. Volunteer duties include assisting with children’s art activities, setting up, cleaning up and more.
  • Children’s Art Camps: Camp volunteers gain exposure to a variety of classes in the arts. Duties include supervising children and assisting teachers in classes. Camps are offered during select Pro-D Days, Spring Break and summer.
  • Galleries & Exhibitions: Volunteers assist with hanging artwork in our galleries and at opening receptions for our art exhibitions.
  • Ushers: Volunteer ushers collect tickets and welcome guests at concerts, recitals and events.
  • Classroom & Workshop Assistants: Volunteers assist teachers with distributing supplies, helping students as needed and cleaning up.

Summer Fun! Camp Volunteers

From July-August, Place des Arts needs camp volunteers for our Summer Fun! program. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience working with children in a fun, art-camp setting. To learn more, including how to apply, visit the Summer Volunteers page.
