About Gleneagle

 Background

Following the well-organized, and widely publicized, "Buy a Brick - Build a School" campaign, Gleneagle Secondary School was officially opened on September 2, 1997 with 1200 students from grades 9 - 11. Our current school population varies from year to year, but averages out at appoximately 1250-1300 students.

From our early beginnings, even before operation started in September of 1997, the culture of Gleneagle Secondary has developed slowly, but surely. It has been quite a growth process, as students, staff, and parents have collectively come to realize what a Grade 9 to 12 secondary school is like.

We have taken the best of the old Junior Secondary Schools and the former Senior Secondary schools in order to create a new entity that works effectively within this community. The school that has emerged from this growth process is one which is first of all an academic institution, but also has developed programs which cater to the variety of skills and abilities of all students. We strongly believe that Gleneagle is second to none as a place for young people to learn and grow.

By such measures as the yearly Provincial Exam results, our school has a very capable student population and a talented staff. Our program specialties include a comprehensive Honours/Advanced Placement program, an award-winning student newspaper with The Edge, and district gifted program with TALONS. In Spring of 2005, our school was chosen as the 'Best All-Around School" by the B.C. School Sports Association. Our school is noted district-wide for the excellence our students show in both the visual and performaing arts, which provides all of our students with a wonderful chance to gain a well-rounded experience.

Gleneagle ought to be a reflection of the community it serves and, therefore, it is fundamentally important that all parties not only communicate with each other, but also learn to listen to others’ viewpoints and work as a team. This requires patience, commitment and, above all, a focus on a common goal.

Enjoy your year and become involved in your school. Memories are not made of letter grades but rather the interaction of academics with a variety of other activities. We urge you to roll up your sleeves and immerse yourself in all that Gleneagle has to offer.
