Dear Parent or Guardian:
On Wednesday July 2nd, we will be handing out report cards to students in grades 9 to 11. The Grade 9 report card distribution will be at 9am, the grade 10 report card distribution will be at 10am and the grade 11 report card distribution will be at 11am. Our grade 12 report cards were handed out last week. Any grade 12 student who missed the distribution can come to the school during office between 8:30am and 2:30pm. We appreciate your patience with respect to the delayed distribution of report cards and the different look to the report card this year. We’d like to remind students for Wednesday to bring in any textbooks or library books they may still have at home.
During the lock-out/strike, the Labour Relations Board ruled that final marks for grades 10 -12 were an “essential service” necessary for Graduation. As a result, grade 10-12 marks will have a final percentage only, Some work habit marks or comments may have been entered prior to the lock-out/strike. In contrast, the marks for grade 9 courses were not deemed to be an “essential service” by the LRB, as they do not appear on the official transcript and are not necessary to apply to post-secondary institutions in Canada. At the grade 9 level, some marks submission may have occurred prior to the strike and grade 9 students have a final grade recorded. In some cases, grade 9 students will receive a notation – NM (no mark) because, at this time, we have not received a final grade for the student due to the lock-out/strike. The mark NM represents a successful completion of the grade 9 class. In other cases, you may see a comment and/or final grade for your grade 9 student is included on the report card rather than NM. If you have questions about this information or your child’s progress, please contact your child’s administrator.
Sincerely,
Principal Shong
