School District No. 43 (Coquitlam)
MetFest

MetFest is an annual district wide theatre festival.  It is a wonderful opportunity for enrichment in theatre arts.  Participants learn a broad range of skills and concepts that are transferable to many other areas of their lives.  One of the most important learning outcomes is the increased ability to be a flexible, adaptive member of a community dedicated to a collective artistic goal.  This year, Met Fest will be running from Monday November 29- Friday December 3, 2010 at Heritage Woods Secondary.  Gleneagle will be offering two plays.  The first, directed by Ms. Freeborn is  “The Actor’s Nightmare” and the second, directed by grade 12 student, Nina Boosheri is “Self Offense.”

All actors involved in Gleneagle’s plays are expected to attend every day of Met Fest, even if they are not performing on that day.  The Met Fest audience is made up of fellow student actors, and all participants are obligated to be present to support one another.  These are late nights, and very tiring, but the educational returns are great.  Plays begin at 7pm each evening.  All of Gleneagle’s fees have been paid using our drama budget money, so your child does not have to pay any entry fees.  With regards to transportation, on the day of their performance, they will need to leave Gleneagle early for technical set-up.   Students will be provided with a ride up to Heritage Woods on their performance day, but will need to be picked up by parents or guardians at the end of the night.  Your child will be responsible to arrange transportation for themselves throughout the MetFest week.

Creating a play to festival standards is really hard work.  It takes a lot of time, energy, and focus.  Please assist your child in making his or her rehearsal commitments by scheduling appointments and meetings outside of rehearsal time.

Please be aware that Gleneagle’s extracurricular theatre program is designed to provide enriched learning in theatre arts.  Though no grade is given to participants, the program meets or exceeds the learning outcomes for all Ministry of Education theatre courses.
