School District No. 43 (Coquitlam) is on the core territory of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem)(Kwee-kwet-lem) First Nation and lies within the shared traditional territories of the Tsleil-Waututh(Slay-wa-tuth), Katzie(Kate-zee), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and Quay Quayt(Key-Kite) First Nation.
The Indigenous Education program provides a wide array of resources and opportunities to enhance the learning environment for all Aboriginal learners - First Nations, Metis and Inuit. The schools provide the daily structure and supports. The Indigenous Education staff, together with the families, community, and classroom teachers, respond to the unique educational needs of the Indigenous students in the school district. Coquitlam's Indigenous Education Enhancement Agreement provides the goals, strategies and structures as a framework for the success of our students.
