Learn About Board of Education’s Role

The Board of Education is an elected body of school trustees from Coquitlam, Port Moody, Port Coquitlam, Anmore and Belcarra.

What do we do?
We govern the Coquitlam School District by following policies outlined in the Mandate for the School System, which give us oversight on important matters that affect the Coquitlam, Port Moody and Tri-Cities public education system. We establish expectations for results (such as student success), fiscal responsibility and operational performance. We also liaise with the community and engage in proactive community relations.

Why are we here?
It is our responsibility to monitor progress and performance of the Coquitlam School Board against our stated expectations. In addition, we help guide important decisions that will benefit children and communities. Our role in Land, Learning and Neighbourhoods initiative is to listen to staff, consult with the community, and provide decisions on how to most effectively manage our land assets for the betterment of our children and life-long learning.

Our vision
We provide world-class instruction and a rich diversity of engaging programs to inspire success for every student and bring communities together to learn, share and grow.
