MISSION
To ensure quality learning opportunities for all students of all ages.

 

DISTRICT

School District No. 43 (Coquitlam) resides on the ancestral unceded territory of the kʷikʷəƛəm (Kwikwetlem First Nation). We thank the kʷikʷəƛəm who continue to live on these lands and care for them, along with the waters, and all that is above and below. We acknowledge, with gratitude, this beautiful place where we live, work, play, and learn. 

SD43 is located in the Metro Vancouver region of B.C. and serves t​he cities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody (Tri-Cities) and the villages of Anmore and Belcarra.

The district is governed by an elected board of nine trustees representing the five communities with a total combined population of approximately 240,000.

EMPLOYEES
Approximately 4,500 total including 2,600 teachers (as of Sep 2023)

 

STUDENT ENROLMENT
SD43 is the third largest district in terms of student enrollment in B.C. with approximately 35,000 students in 70 schools.

 

SCHOOLS

  • 47 elementary schools (kindergarten-grade 5)
  • 14 middle schools (grades 6-8)
  • 9 secondary schools (grades 9-12)
  • Alternative education programs

SD43 six-year completion rates for All Students, Female Students, Male Students, Indigenous Students, and Students with Special Needs continue to be well above the provincial average and some of the highest in BC.

 

PROGRAMS
K-12, online, international, adult and continuing education and a wide range of specialized educational programs and services including:

 

Gifted education programs 
International Baccalaureate
Language programs: Core French & French Immersion, Mandarin Bilingual and ELL
Aboriginal Education
Encompass
Montessori Program
Reggio-influenced Program
Community Hubs and Community Schools
Variety of Career and Trades programs designed to help students gain learning, certifications and experiences

 

The ongoing work of the Safe Schools Task Force, the ERASE Bullying training and the explicit teaching of Digital Citizenship continue to enhance learning and support the development of social responsibility in students.

 

INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION
SD43’s International Education program is one of the largest and most successful in Canada, helping generate significant revenue for the district each year.

 

CONTINUING EDUCATION
Coquitlam Continuing Education is the community education school for SD43 offering diverse and comprehensive learning opportunities for all.

 

OPEN LEARNING & ENCOMPASS
Distributed learning programs offering K-9, 10-12 and adult students unique educational options.

 

BUDGET
Long-term Board of Education objective is to provide long-term stability and sustainability through multi-year financial planning.

The 2023/2024 Operating Budget: $370.8 million. SD43 devotes more of its operating budget to instruction and less on administration than the provincial average.
