Key Systems and Structures

- Student Information Systems (BCeSIS)
- Educational Technology Advisory Committee (see: http://my43.sd43.bc.ca/Committees/etc), a standing committee of the District to provide advise with respect to matters of technology
- Technology Work Partners Committee (see: http://my43.sd43.bc.ca/Committees/techworkpartners), a committee of District employee groups and Board representatives who meet to clarify, discuss, and advise on jurisdictional aspects of implementing and supporting technology
Research, Planning, Consulting, and Data
- Facilitate the 1701 and Class Size & Composition processes (critical Ministry data collection process)
- Participate on school design committees, with respect to 21st century learning space needs and the impact of technology and related systems
- Consideration and advice for potential to use technology to support and transform work, learning, and communication (portals, document management, e-forms, laptops, tablets, hand held computers, smart boards, networking, applications, services, blogs, wikis, social networks, social media, etc.)
- Business process analysis (with an aim to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of work)
Development and Projects
- my43 Learning and Administrative portals
- Develop improvements to Admin Central including smart forms
- Review learn portal needs with educators and consider developing new features
- Continue migrating teaching and other sites from old to new Sharepoint environment
- Research and prepare for summer 2011 upgrade to Sharepoint 2010
- Teacher Laptop Initiative (see: http://my43.sd43.bc.ca/Committees/etc/tli)
- Develop criteria / professional development, gain commitments, determine participating schools
- Implement a new laptop for up to 1/3 of teachers Spring 2011
- Digital Tools and Social Responsibility (see: http://my43.sd43.bc.ca/Committees/etc/digitaltools)
- Update District administrative procedures and guidelines to support responsible use of technology
- With Staff Development develop and implement support for schools, teachers, and families in the responsible use of technology
- Research and implement where possible technical solutions to better manage the inappropriate use of network resources
- Administrative / business systems (see: http://my43.sd43.bc.ca/Committees/adminsystems), finance, human resources, payroll, facilities, maintenance, student / teacher information, purchasing
- Through the Administrative Systems Steering Committee, consider proposals for new or improved business systems
- Proposals will be reviewed and prioritized by the committee for potential approval and funding by District leadership
- Public District and school web sites
- Expand the use of e-forms to replace paper forms to collect information for schools and the District
- Explore ways to use web sites to engage parents and our community
- Unified Communications systems (IP phones, audio/web/video conferencing / meeting places)
- Planning for new phone / communications systems
- Configure for use by superintendents and principals / vice principals for online meetings and conversations
- Desktop / Laptop computers (specification, acquisition, testing, imaging / deployment, troubleshooting, support)
- (16) elementary labs replaced Summer 2010
- (1) elementary lab to be replaced Spring 2011
- (3) elementary one to one class sets of laptops replaced with netbooks Summer 2010 (school/District cost share)
- Numerous school-based Summer 2010 replacement / upgrade projects
- Network infrastructure (wired switches in buildings and connections between buildings)
- Complete the replacement of all wired switches in all schools and District buildings by November 2010
- New switches are designed to be faster, smarter, more secure, and easier to manage
- Work with the Ministry of Education to gain improvements to current PLN connections for schools and the District
- Continue planning / design for a possible District-wide private fiber optic network
- Print Strategy (for schools and District offices)
- Develop criteria and requirements for printers, multi-function printer / scanners
- With reference to the District’s “green” initiative, reduce printing overall and monitor / report on printing
- Eliminate inefficient print devices
- Work with Purchasing to acquire replacement multi-function devices
