T.A.L.O.N.S. - The Academy of Learning for Outstanding Notable Students is the only program of its kind in the Coquitlam
School District #43, specifically designed for gifted learners in grades 9 to
12, focusing on the Autonomous Learner Model. It addresses the unique needs of
gifted learners by offering grade 9 and
10s the following courses: English 9-10, Social Studies 9-10, Math 9-10,
Science 9-10. There are options for grade 11 and 12 TALONS Program alumni to
take an independent directed studies (IDS) 11 or 12 in subjects, such as Social
Justice 12, Environmental Sciences 12, Geometry 12, Statistics 12 and Big
History 11. All these TALONS courses are
taught in an enriched, honours, accelerated and telescoped way. Grade 9
and 10 learners also take Leadership 10 and 11 and Outdoor Recreation 11 and 12
(depending on COVID-19 Restrictions) with the option to take Leadership 12 in
either grade 11 or 12. Application to this program is only
available for identified gifted learners living and attending a public school
in District #43 as well as currently attending grade 8. An online application package will be
e-mailed to eligible grade 8 students in our middle schools approximately at
