The Applied Skills Department includes Food Studies, Home Economics, Technology Education, and Fashion Studies. These courses enable students to function effectively as individuals and as members of families and larger communities - in essence, giving students the tools they need to be successful.
Technology Education offers a wide variety of Technology courses designed to meet the interests and needs of students. In addition, this department offers a number of Work Experience (WE) programs.
These programs are designed to provide an opportunity for senior students to focus their studies on a specific career area, explore post secondary options and complete 90 hours of related work experience. Participation in Secondary Apprentice Programs (SSA) where students who have gained part time employment in an apprenticable trade can be registered during their senior years in school.
Students interested in learning more about (WE) and (SSA) should read the “Work Experience” section at the beginning of this booklet, consult with their counsellor and the Technology Education Department Head. Curriculum and instruction will be directed toward the achievement of this vision. While high standards of performance will be expected of all students, there is recognition of their diversity and developmental stages.
