Dear SD43 families,
As the academic year concludes, it is time to reflect on the collective efforts that have contributed to the success of students and the school district. The unwavering support from families has been instrumental in fostering a nurturing educational environment. Acknowledging the achievements of students is paramount, as it not only celebrates their hard work but also inspires continued excellence. Summer brings a well-deserved break for all, while the leaving and commencement ceremonies mark significant milestones in the educational journey, symbolizing both an end and a new beginning.
Looking back over this year, we reached several milestones:
- Construction began on the new Burke Mountain Secondary school and on the new Moody Elementary School.
- Coast Salish Elementary School officially opened to students.
- Construction began on the 10-classroom addition at Scott Creek Middle School.
- A 12-classroom addition was announced for Dr. Charles Best Secondary School.
- Hazel Trembath Elementary was able to 'Rise up Together' as the school community relocated to Winslow Centre after the devastating fire of 2023.
- Several schools celebrated important anniversaries this year including 10 years at Eagle Mountain and Pitt River Middle, 50 years at Port Moody Secondary, 60 years at Harbour View Elementary, and 75 years at Mundy Road Elementary.
- The 2023-2024 school year was one of unprecedented growth with many new students joining SD43.
- The Pacific Northwest Coast Experience Minecraft World was created in collaboration with Kwikwetlem First Nation, SD43 Indigenous Education, and Microsoft Canada β a first-of-its-kind project released globally!
Commitment to excellence in education is a cornerstone of the SD43 learning community. With the continuation of the Directions 2025 strategic plan, the district is poised to enhance its educational offerings, ensuring that students are not only well-prepared academically but also equipped with the confidence and independence needed to succeed in a global society. This forward-thinking approach underscores the district's role in shaping the future leaders and innovators of the world.
Congratulations to the Graduating Class of 2024! I look forward to welcoming our incoming Kindergarten, new and returning students and their families after a restful summer break on Tuesday, September 3rd.
Best wishes for a happy and relaxing summer!
Sincerely,
Patricia Gartland
Superintendent of Schools, SD43
