We are so fortunate to have award-winning teachers in our district! Here are some teachers that have recently received awards from science and math associations.
Edward Csuka
Terry Fox Secondary Teacher Edward Csuka has been awarded the 2022 CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching High School/CEGEP Physics (British Columbia and Yukon) by the Canadian Association of Physicists in recognition of his passion for teaching physics, his leadership in organizing the Power of Ideas Exhibit, and his dedication in seeking funding to launch a new STEAM program in the school.
Edward shares, βIn 2023, I am looking forward to travelling with this CAP award to a world-class physics institute where I can share ideas with leading physicists. I am also excited to see the continued, thriving growth of our innovative Terry Fox STEAM program."
βKerry Lockwood
Pinetree Secondary School Teacher Kerry Lockwood has been recognized by the National Association of Geoscience Teachers as a 2022 Outstanding Earth Science Teacher for her passion in teaching science and her contributions to other teachers in furthering their science education in their own classrooms. β
Since 1996, Kerry has been the classroom program coordinator in the district for Fisheries and Oceans Canada Salmonids, delivering salmon eggs to various classrooms and supporting teachers within the program. She has received the Canada 150 Community Leader award for her work in preventing the program from being defunded.
Laura Epp
Numeracy Support Teacher Laura Epp has been awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award by the BC Association of Mathematics Teachers at their most recent conference for demonstrating excellence as a classroom teacher and her professional leadership.
