Yesterday afternoon, January 20, 2022, the Ministry of Education announced the cancellation of the January 2022 Provincial Graduation Assessments. The assessment schedule was slated to begin on Monday, January 24, 2022. The Ministry cited the challenges presented by the pandemic as the reason for this change. The Ministry provided the assurance that no grade 12 students who are on track to graduate in the 2021-2022 school year will be negatively impacted by this cancellation. The Ministry, in announcing this change, referenced that more information would be sent regarding upcoming assessment sessions and a questions and answers document to inform students and parents, but did not specify when this would be available.
This announcement was not anticipated by our school or our school district. Plans were in place to carry out these assessments in a safe manner and according to the timeline published by the Ministry last school year.
Secondary schools have detailed plans in place, during this time of the school year, to support the learning and success at school of all students. These plans will continue, as planned in the face of this recent change by the Ministry in the provincial graduation assessment schedule.
You will be kept informed about this matter as soon as more information is provided by the Ministry of Education.
