As highlighted in
a full-page feature article in the Tri-City News, many SD43 schools are using self-regulation techniques as part of the social and emotional curriculum. SD43 has been working with the Canadian Self-Regulation Initiative on programs to help students recognize and reduce stress. Some tools and technique being used include: "taking 5," zones of regulation, sensory rooms, calming music and stationary bikes.
Heritage Woods Secondary's Calming Week, featuring free tea, therapy dogs and yoga to help students manage their stress and anxiety.
