Superintendent's Letter to Families: COVID-19 Update

November 30, 2020

Superintendent's Letter to Families - COVID-19 Update 11-30-2020.jpgDear SD43 families,

Your continued support and dedication to help keep schools safe for children is appreciated. The best place for the well-being of children emotionally, socially, and educationally, is in school. The protocols in place at schools have been successful because children and families continue to practice hand hygiene, maintain physical distancing, wear masks when required, and perform daily health checks. As you are no doubt aware, there have been individual exposures in district schools but in each situation, the school community has responded to the direction of health authorities with diligence.

In matters of health, the district closely follows all guidelines from the Provincial Health Officer and the Fraser Health Authority. This includes communication of potential exposures. If a member of the school community tests positive for COVID-19, Fraser Health follows up directly with those individuals who may have been exposed and provides them instruction on whether to isolate or seek testing. When the school is notified of a potential exposure, based on a lab confirmed case, a letter is sent to the school community. The letter identifies the school and outlines any required actions. Individual students, families or classrooms are not identified to preserve personal privacy. Anyone considered to be a close contact will be contacted by health authorities. Please follow any directions provided if you are contacted. If your child attends a school that has experienced a case and you are not contacted by health authorities, it has been determined that your child is not at immediate risk of developing COVID-19 and your child may continue to attend school. Please continue to do daily health checks before school.

Sincerely,

Patricia Gartland
Superintendent and CEO
