Port Moody Fire Rescue responded to an apartment fire at the Mountain View Co-op Housing Complex at 900 Clarke Road in Port Moody shortly after noon on October 7, 2105. Impacted residents were transported by bus to the Kyle Community Centre at 125 Kyle St. in Port Moody where emergency services were provided.
Some of our School District 43 students attending several different schools and their families were impacted by the fire and SD43 is providing support services to those impacted students.
Offers for support and donations are pouring in from the community. Emergency Services has provided for the residents’ immediate needs including food, hotel accommodation and basic necessities, but further community support may be needed in the days and weeks to come.
The City of Port Moody has organized the support and donation process. Here is information on what is being organized and how you can help:
- Community volunteers and the Coop have already organized a Thanksgiving dinner for the residents and preparations are well under way.
- Mountain View Co-op has advised that they are at capacity for physical donations (clothing, etc). They suggest the donation of gift cards rather than clothing.
- People who want to provide financial support are encouraged to donate to the fund. If you wish to donate money, the Trust Account for Mountain View Co-op is #2067031 Branch #52. Deposits can be made at any VanCity credit union. Electronic transfers are not possible.
