As of January 2015 a Metro Vancouver mandate established that all organic waste must be processed separate from other garbage waste. In response, School District 43 has implemented organic recycling procedures in all its schools across four municipalities to meet the Metro Vancouver requirements. To increase awareness around this, SD 43 is pleased to provide all students the opportunity to express and share their enthusiasm around organic recycling through a poster contest. Students are encouraged to create unique pieces generating a greater awareness and expressing the importance of recycling organic waste in our schools and throughout our communities.
All entries will be assessed by District using criteria based on creativity, clarity of message, and design. Winners will be awarded at all three levels (Elementary, Middle and Secondary) with cash prizes given to both the individual students ($100) and the school that student attends ($200) – to be used to support a sustainability project in that school. The winning submissions will be mass produced and displayed throughout the District and at various community events.
The deadline for entries is April 10th, 2015 and the winners announced on April 22nd – Earth Day 2015.
We look forward to seeing some amazing designs from all our creative students throughout SD 43.
