SHARP Students of High Ability in the Regular Program
An in-service opportunity for classroom teachers who have a gifted cluster in their class.
Gifted Clustering
SHARP (Students of High Ability in the Regular Classroom) is the name of a pilot project started in September 2003 in which elementary and middle school classroom teachers are enrolling cluster groupings of gifted students and intentionally providing differentiated curriculum and socio-emotional support for them. A cluster group consists of 3-6 formally identified gifted students that are placed into a mixed ability classroom. The classroom teacher uses strategies, resources, and materials to address the particular academic and socio-emotional needs of each of the gifted students in the cluster. Support is provided to these teachers in the form of individual consultation as well as bimonthly in-service and networking SHARP sessions.
