Irvine students engage in new school visioning

February 16, 2018

On February 13, 2018, SD43's Facilities Department engaged  with 12 students in grades 3 and 4 at Irvine Elementary School on a visioning process for the new school.

This involved: an introduction to architecture from our architects, a student sharing session and a student design activity.

During the sharing session, students identified what they liked about their current school building, what they would like to change about their school building, and what they would like to see in a new building. Ideas for inclusions in the new building were water bottle filling station, lots of windows, and  a big gym.

For the design activity, students used the different rooms and components of  a school building to create their desired layout and also where they would put the building on the site.  Their explanations afterwards having the office and the library at the front of the school, making sure classrooms had views outside, the distances to the washrooms, and grouping of the kindergartens together.
