Occupation Description‚Äč: 

A "Parts Technician 1" is involved in ordering, warehousing, maintaining inventory control and sales of parts. They are responsible for identifying parts and equipment, searching for parts, shipping and receiving parts, providing customer service and advice, and maintaining records.

A Parts Technician works in various industries such as automotive service, commercial transport, heavy duty equipment, small engine repair, aeronautics, agricultural equipment, marine equipment, the mining sector, and the forestry sector. The work environment for Parts Technicians is generally indoors in a warehouse and/or at a service counter. Some parts people may perform deliveries of parts to their customers. Parts Technicians generally work in teams that include retail service staff, sales staff, and service technicians.‚Äč

Application Process

November 1 to Spring Break

    • student completes the fillable "SD43 Application" (top link in the right column) by typing in answers and getting necessary signatures
    • submit to your counsellor at your high school

after S‚Äčpring Break to late April

    • Personal interview/conversation with Ben King at your school

‚Äč‚Äčmid-May into June

    • Ben King will:
      • email students conditional acceptances into the program
        • unsuccessful applicants will also are contacted
      • enroll the student at the training site(s)
      • ‚Äč‚Äčensure counselors adjust students' timetables to reflect course/credits‚Äč
‚ÄčTime Commitment
  • Sites, intakes and seats:
    • KPU delivers the program, but this program is totally online
    • 2 Intakes
      • ‚ÄčSeptember to June
      • March to December
    • 20 week program
    • Coquitlam ca‚Äčn get 1-2 seats
  • 5 days a week:  Monday to Friday
  • 7.30am to 2.00pm

Student Cost

  • both programs are tuition-free, but there is a $350 program fee at BCIT that will cover necessary supplies... PIC does not have any associated costs.

Location‚Äč‚Äč & Transportation

  • there is no transportation required, as it is delivery entirely online

Pre-Requisites

  • given the wide variety of home electrical appliances (washer, dryer, microwave, stove, refrigerator, basic air conditioner, etc) you will be fixing, it is strongly recommended you have taken:
    • Electronics 11
    • ideally have Electronics 12 too
  • plan to complete Language Arts 12
  • strong numeracy skills and good literacy skills‚Äč
  • excellent attendance + lates record while in high school

  • this program is made up different districts competitively applying for 16 high school seats per intake - traditionally Coquitlam SD‚Äč43 has had success in getting students in due to good marks and excellent attendance while in high school
  • students typically take this program i‚Äčn either their grade 11 or 12 year after taking all the necessary/core subjects
  • students must begin a program prior to June 30 of their graduation year
    • ex 1:  a Program begins in March and runs for 23 weeks - this is okay for a current grade 12 student‚Äč to apply to
    • ex 2:  a program will begin in September ‚Äčafter a grade 12 has graduated - that current grade 12 can not apply as they will not be accepted‚Äč‚Äč
  • must have government-issued photo ID (ex: a driver's license, BC ‚ÄčID, passport) that is current/valid on the ‚ÄčITA exam date (last week or so of program)‚Äč
  • on intake date, students must be:
    • a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and
    • an enrolled student in a high school (non-grad) in SD43‚Äč
  • unfortunately, international students are not able to enroll in this program
