Occupation Description: 
Construction Electricians plan, design, assemble, install, alter, repair, inspect, verify, commission, connect, operate, maintain and decommission electrical systems. Electrical systems provide heating, lighting, power, alarm, security, communication and control in residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, transportation, marine and entertainment environments.‚Äč 

Application Process

November 1 to Spring Break
    • l‚Äčook over all the information below and in the right column - get a good understanding of the pre-reqs, expectations, time commitment,    reading, math, trainin‚Äčg, etc
      • no questions... go ahead and apply for the program!
      • questions?... book an appointment with Benjamin King (district principal), to learn more
        • use the: Booking App, or
        • use the QR code in the right column
    • student completes the fillable "SD43 Application" (top link in the right column) by typing in answers and getting necessary signatures
    • submit to your counsellor at your high school

after S‚Äčpring Break to late April

    • Personal interview/conversation with Ben King at your school

‚Äč‚Äčmid-May into June

    • Ben King will:
      • email students conditional acceptances into the program
        • unsuccessful applicants will also are contacted
      • enroll the student at the training site(s)
      • ‚Äč‚Äčensure counselors adjust students' timetables to reflect course/credits


‚ÄčTime Commitment
  • 1 intake‚Äč: for the 2024-25 school ‚Äčyear, this program will be running for all of semester 1 (September 3 - January 31)
  • 5 days a week - 8.20pm to 3.00pm

Student Cost

  • tuition-free, but students wi‚Äčll need to pay $350 for program materials and textbook.

Location & Transportation

  • Dr. Charles Best Secondary‚Äč
  • Transportation, to and from the training site, is the responsibility of the parent/guardian

Pre-Requisites

  • ‚Äčcompleted all grade 11 core subjects prior to the intake day, including:
    • ‚ÄčPhysics 11‚Äč
    • Math 11:  Foundations (C+) or Pre-Cal (C+) or Workplace (B)
    • any Tech Ed 10 or 11 course
  • excellent attendance + lates record

  • Student Eligibility
    • this program is made up different districts filling the 16 seats -
      traditionally Coquitlam SD43 has had 1-2 students enrolled 
    • students typically take this program in their grade 12 year after taking all the necessary/core grade 11 subjects
    • students must begin a program prior to June 30 of their graduation year
      • ex 1:  a Program begins in March and runs for 23 weeks - this is okay for a current grade 12 student‚Äč to apply to
      • ex 2:  a program will begin in September ‚Äčafter a grade 12 has graduated - that current grade 12 should not apply as they will not be accepted‚Äč‚Äč
    • must have government-issued photo ID (ex: a driver's license, BC ‚ÄčID, passport) that is current/valid on the ‚ÄčITA exam date (last week or so of program)‚Äč
    • on intake date, students must be:
      • a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and
      • an enrolled student in a high school in SD43‚Äč
    • unfortunately, international students are not able to enroll in this program
