Public Engagement Opportunity: Indigenous-Focuses Grad Requirement

March 08, 2022

Families, students, staff, and community members are invited to participate in the public engagement process regarding the Indigenous-Focused Grad Requirement announced by the Ministry of Education on March 4th. Visit the govTogetherBC website before April 22, 2022, and share your thoughts on the proposed approach for the new requirement.

The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC), is implementing the new graduation requirement to ensure students have expanded their knowledge about Indigenous perspectives, histories, and cultures. This new requirement will take effect for secondary students in the 2023-2024 school year and will ensure that each graduate of B.C.’s K-12 curriculum has completed Indigenous-focused coursework.

The online public engagement process is being implemented to gain feedback on the proposed approach, and what related information and resources students, parents, and schools may need. The ministry will also consult with Indigenous communities and K-12 partners through the spring. Access the survey before April 22, 2022 at the govTogetherBC website
