GregSkerratt-PMTeachingAward-web.jpgSchool District No. 43 (Coquitlam) is proud to announce that Greg Skerratt, a technology teacher at École Kwayhquitlum Middle School, has received a Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence.

Mr. Skerratt received a Certificate of Achievement for his work at the school. This is the second year in a row that a teacher from SD43 has been the recipient of a Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence.

“I am honoured and humbled to be recognized with this incredible honour,” said Mr. Skerratt. “I am grateful to my school district, school, and my wonderful colleagues for helping me succeed while providing innovative learning opportunities for my amazing students.”

On his bio page on the Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence website, Mr. Skerratt was lauded for encouraging creative thought and invention through scaffolding activities that recognize and value creative innovation. Students in his class are able to pursue their personal passions through inquiry-based projects.

Mr. Skerratt is a lead teacher with SD43’s Sphero Coding project, and has taken a leadership role in ensuring his students understand how to be responsible digital citizens by developing materials on hot-button topics including privacy, cyberbullying and recognizing dangerous activity online.

Mr. Skerratt also pioneered and implemented a Zero Waste program at the school.
