All secondary schools in Coquitlam offer academic challenges to gifted students. (Check "Course Calendar" information from individual schools.)

Secondary students are encouraged to take an active role in developing their own Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Excellent programs in potential career fields , such as technology, art, drama, music/band, multimedia, tourism, home and culinary arts, journalism and leadership, as well as athletics and academics are offered through various programs.

Course selection, post-secondary and career planning, scholarships and tutoring options are available from school counsellors. Math, history and writing contests are available.

Students can pursue Advance Placement (AP) examinations in each school.

In most secondary schools, students may be allowed to take courses at a higher level.

Clubs, organizations and extra-curricular activities, provide opportunities for gifted students to meet with like-minded classmates.

Students in Grades 9-12 may be selected to represent their school at the District Student Leadership Council.

Special Secondary Seminars presented by expert adults in topical areas are given in district and community settings and are organized by the Gifted Education Resource or by individual schools.

The Lower Mainland Gifted Contacts group, organizes special events, such as the "What Can YOUth Do?" Conference for grades 10 -12 students, held at SFU in 2004; UBC in 2005 & SFU 2009,2010 & 2011.
