The Board of Education of School District No. 43 (Coquitlam) is pleased to launch the SD43 Education Foundation. While the school district is a not for profit organization and can issue donation (tax) receipts, it is not widely understood that the school district can receive donations and provide donation (tax) receipts. Under the leadership of Secretary-Treasurer/CFO, Chris Nicolls, the Foundation has been established within the BC Societies Act, with a duly established constitution and bylaws providing a more visible and accessible vehicle to attract donations.
SD43 staff will continue to solicit community, business, and other donations, and will now be able to direct them to the Foundation. As well, the Board will be able to designate portions of non-governmental grant revenues from SD43 into the Foundation.
The Foundation Directors will make grants to SD43 in accordance with endowment requirements and receive grant requests from SD43 to support initiatives. SD43 already has a robust scholarship program with funds from local businesses, organizations and individuals and the Foundation will further support this program.
In due course a formal visioning plan will be developed to promote educational giving in support of SD43 students and the alignment of this vision with SD43’s strategic plan.
More information, including how to donate, can be found by visiting https://sd43foundation.org/make-a-donation/ or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
