Congratulations to Aspenwood's Me-2-We students that have raised $15,560 for We Charity!
Aspenwood Elementary students spent weeks learning about the importance of clean water and how in many places in the world, many do not have access to clean water. In addition, students also learned about children having to walk 40 kilometres or more each day carrying heavy water buckets to source clean water to provide for their family.
Aspenwood's Grade 4 and 5 students had the opportunity to experience a water walk where each Grade 4 and 5 student carried two-four litre jugs filled with water and walked for 40 minutes continuously to simulate a walk for clean water. Pledges were collected per lap to support the We Charity and on the first day of the Water Walk challenge alone, students were raised $12,000.
A $10,000 donation to We Charity is transformational as this amount can build a one classroom school, making a large contribution to the education future of children.
In addition, Aspenwood Elementary was the recipient of the $2500 "We Bake a Difference Award" sponsored by Robin Hood towards an education pillar in one of the countries that We Charity supports.
Ann Kirkhope shares, "Our fundraising efforts totaling $15,550 can create sustainability and empowerment to a We village. This wouldn't have been possible without the support of the Aspenwood community. The Aspenwood students are proud of their work and honoured to create such a profound impact."
