Coquitlam Autism Spectrum Team (CAST)
 

Program Services

CAST is a consultative team of professionals who strive to empower schools in developing the tools and knowledge required to better support students with disabilities in school settings.

CAST will provide support services for students in the following categories:

  • A – Physically Dependent with Multiple Needs
  • C – Moderate or Profound Intellectual Disabilities
  • G – Autism
The length of CAST involvement will depend on the needs of the student and the needs of the school team.

Types of Programming

While the nature of support will vary, depending on the individual needs of the student and the school team, CAST is available to provide the following array of services:

  • consultative services for a limited period of time
  • assistance with program design
  • assistance with assessment of student needs
  • support with IEP development
  • training of school support team (Teacher, SEA, Administrator)
  • assistance in development and implementation of visual supports, reinforcers, sensory materials,
  • break time activities and materials, instructional materials
  • direct instruction
  • support with referrals for District Services
  • support with managing involvement of outside agencies

In-Service Opportunities

CAST can provide an array of in-service opportunities at the request of schools. In-service may be general or student specific and may include the following topics:

  • Visual Supports
  • Discrete Trial Training
  • Sensory Programs
  • Positive Behaviour Support
  • Functional Assessment
  • Instructional Strategies (Chaining, Task Analysis, Fading Prompts, Literacy and Numeracy Skills, etc.)
  • Developing Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Working with Outside Agencies
  • Picture Exchange Communication System
  • Using Boardmaker and/or Writing With Symbols
  • Social Skills Training

Referral Process

1. Contact your Zone Coordinator or contact one of the CAST Consultants directly.

2. CAST Consultant will contact a representative from the school to determine needs
