Two SD43 teachers, Emmanuel Escueta and Greg Tjosvold, were recently awarded Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence. Recipients are honoured for their remarkable achievements in education and for their commitment to preparing their students for a digital and innovation-based economy.
Emmanuel Escueta, a grade 2 French Immersion teacher with Ćcole Irvine Elementary School was awarded a Certificate of Excellence. Mr. Escueta is the developer of the Verbathonāa national French verb conjugation tournamentāthis teacher also engages his young students with songs, dances, instruments and crafts from several cultures. Greg Tjosvold, a grade 6 teacher at Citadel Middle was awarded a Certificate of Achievement. Mr. Tjosvold created the Authorship program for middle school students to conceive, write, edit, re-write, print and bind their own novelsāinitially on paper but now using publishing software.
