On March 3, 2016, three Maple Creek Students, Dorsa, Zachar and Jasmine accompanied Mrs. Evansā grade 1 students from Ćcole Glen Elementary on their walking field trip to Save On Foods. These same middle school students visited Mrs. Evansā class three weeks ago as part of Real Acts of Caring week and inspired Mrs. Evansā class to reach out to someone else. The grade one students decided to collect 100 cans of food for the food bank. The 100 cans was to honour the 100 days of school they were also celebrating and became part of their daily math as they counted their cans daily and worked out how many more they needed to meet their goal.
The young Glen Elementary students carried the 00 cans they had collected on their walking fieldtrip and meet with a representative of the Share Food Bank and Save On Foods. Save On Foods matched the childrenās donation and provided the grade 1 students with a tour and treat to thank them for their efforts.
RAC which started at Maple Creek Middle celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. Mrs. Evansā grade one field trip is one example of the impact one Real Act of Caring can have on the community.
