The Aspenwood Elementary elves were busy yesterday making over 900 Christmas crackers for charity! Aspenwood Cares is a club that began by the students wanting to do Acts of Kindness that would give back to the community. This year they helped make over 900 Christmas crackers for local seniors’ homes, shelters and food banks, as well as families from a local apartment complex who lost their homes to a fire a few months ago. The Christmas cracker idea goes back about 20 years where Carol Todd and Ann Kirkhope began this at another school in Coquitlam. The tradition has since carried on with other elementary and middle schools in the district.
