Grade 9 Take our Kids to Work Day

October 16, 2023

RE: Grade 9 Take Our Kids to Work Day

“ Take Our Kids to Work Day is an experiential learning opportunity for Grade 9 students across Canada since 1994. Now hosted by the Students Commission of Canada, this day offers youth the chance to see the world of work firsthand, explore a variety of careers and sectors, and look at what skills are important to thrive in the world of work.

This year, on Wednesday, November 1, students, caregivers, educators, and workplaces will have options for participating in diverse, inclusive and accessible career exploration on Take Our Kids to Work Day 2023!

The theme for Take Our Kids to Work 2023, Everyone Belongs Here. The return to in-person experience, featuring diverse experiences and representatives, all students, regardless of their circumstances, will be empowered to see the value they hold and power they possess in making decisions about their future. Through it all, the goal is to ignite students' curiosity and open the door for them to see what is possible for their future."

Gleneagle Secondary and SD43 supports this program and encourages families of grade 9 students to arrange a workday placement (with parents, relatives, family friends or community host).

If participating, please complete the attached consent form and submit it to the main office by Friday, October 27th email: 125-secretary@sd43.bc.ca or hand in the form to the office.  Paper copies of the permission form are available at the main office.

Please record “Mr. Conley" on the line for teacher's name.

In advance of November 1st please use our school's absence email: 125-secretary@sd43.bc.ca and indicate “Take Our Kids to Work Day" for your excused reason.

Any grade 9 student who does not participate in this event is expected to attend school on that day.  There will be alternate learning activities relating to careers education in place for grade 9 students in attendance that day.

All grade 9s will be participating in Digital Literacy and Career education learning sessions as part of our semester end schedule in January.

Thank you for supporting this worthwhile experience.

Sincerely,                                                                             Parent-Permission-Form 2023.pdf
