The course includes presentations, hands-on training and real-life demonstrations from police officers and associated community partners. Some of the training presentations include:
- General Duty police work – A day in the life of a police officer,
- Forensic Identification,
- Drugs Section,
- Police Dog Services,
- Air Services,
- Traffic Enforcement,
- Emergency Response Team,
- Tactical Troop Training,
- Polygraph Unit, and
- Underwater Dive Team.
In addition, a field trip to a maximum security correctional facility, hands-on police defence tactics and the police physical evaluation test, known as PARE, are in the syllabus this year.
The course consists of 9 training sessions and the dates are as follows:
- Seven Monday evening sessions from 5:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. on February 16th and 23rd, March 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th, 2015; and
- Two Saturday sessions from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both March 7th & 21st.
Coquitlam RCMP Detachment. The detachment is near the intersection of Pinetree Way and Guildford Way (2986 Guildford Way, Coquitlam) and it is also just north of and walking distance from Coquitlam Centre Mall.
There is a nominal fee for the course of $145.00 per student. The money raised is then donated to the School District(s) in the form of RCMP Scholarships. All instruction provided is volunteered by police instructors on their time off. The location and registration is also provided at no cost. $20.00 of the fee is used to purchase course t-shirts for the students.
Some School Career Preparation Programs have recognized the course for school credit and have also paid the student fee.
