English 9
A
s a first high school English course, English 9 provides students with a wide range of reading experiences including short fi ction, poetry, drama and the novel. Students will develop and refine their paragraphing, speaking, and critical thinking skills.
English 9 Honours
This course offers many opportunities for enrichment within the English 9 curriculum. Students will continue to develop their reading and writing skills with a greater emphasis on critical analysis. Literature will include short fi ction, drama, poetry, and the novel.
Humanities 9
This year long course, taught by one teacher, enables students to make a smooth transition to the high school setting. Students will earn credit for both the Social Studies 9 and English 9 curricula by delving into issues that thematically connect literature, history and current events. The concept of democracy serves as the anchor of this course.
Jumpstart 9
This integrated Humanities and Visual Arts Program is a unique opportunity only offered at Gleneagle.

English 10
This course builds on the skills developed in English 9 and exposes students to more challenging literature. Students will be expected to write about and discuss works in an increasingly critical and sophisticated manner and will also learn the essay form.
English 10 Honours
This course provides challenging learning opportunities in an enriched environment. Self-motivated students will explore diverse literary works through critical analysis, in depth projects, presentations, essays, class discussions, and creative writing. (Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation and available space)
