CARPENTRY & JOINERY 12: CABINETMAKING
This course is an advanced cabinetry design course that also includes a few elements of furniture construction. Students will have opportunities to work both individually and as a member of a team. Previous knowledge of design, problem-solving, and wood joinery will assist planning of systematic methods of production. The emphasis will be cabinet construction techniques and installation. Team members will devise ways of increasing production efficiency by making several identical projects at once. Where applicable, students working on personal projects will be required to purchase materials. Prerequisite - Wood 11 or Industrial design 11
CARPENTRY & JOINERY 12: FURNITURE
This course deals with methods and processes related to furniture design and manufacturing and further develops previously acquired woodworking and machining skills. This course also improves teamwork, planning, problem solving, and manufacturing skills with projects involving public service. Students will have the opportunity to construct furniture of their own design and will be encouraged to “specialize” in a variety of joinery and construction methods. Where applicable, students purchase materials for personal work. Prerequisite - Wood 11 or Industrial design 11
CARPENTRY & JOINERY 12: HOUSE CONSTRUCTION
This course involves students in construction methods related to building houses from the foundation to the roof. Stair construction, and finishing methods. The course further develops woodworking and machining skill, and improves teamwork, planning, problem solving, and manufacturing skills. Time permitting; students also have opportunities to construct cabinets or other appropriate wood items of their own design. Where applicable, students purchase materials for personal work. Prerequisite - Wood 11 or Industrial design 11
