​The Golden Spike Days Festival is an annual family festival held in Rocky Point Park, Port Moody: June 28 - July 1, 2025. The festival commemorates the completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway to the city and the Confederation of Canada. The festival includes many live musical performances, dancers, parades, comedians, rides, and food shops. 

Various positions available: Gate greeter, stage hand, family zone, traffic/ parking control, environment supporter, bike valet, information tent, etc.

This Summer Travel, Work and Improve your French!

The YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange (SWSE) is a six-week program that offers youth ages 16-17 the opportunity to gain paid work experience, practise their second official language skills, and discover another community within Canada. 

Applications are open for the summer exchange program, running from June 28 to August 9, 2025!

In order to register for the program, you must meet the following eligibility criteria
  • Be 16 or 17 years old at the start of the program 
  • Live in Canada and be eligible to work in Canada
  • Your family must be able to host a youth from another community during the exchange — but if this is a barrier, let us know and we will work with you to find a solution 
  • Must be enthusiastic and excited to try new things, learn and grow

​The program covers the cost of travel to and from the host community and expenses related to activities run by the local coordinator. Each host family is responsible for providing food for three meals a day.

There is a $200 CAD registration fee payable at the time of acceptance. If this fee presents a barrier to a youth’s ability to participate, it can be waived. Personal expenses and transit costs to and from work are the main expenses for program participants. For concerns related to these expenses please contact the program coordinator.

​Volunteer Opportunities are available for students for the Hike for Hospice event, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Mundy Park. It would be fantastic if a group of students could volunteer on the day of. There are a variety of roles available, including registration, trail marshals, and assistance with the BBQ, among others. **Additionally, students can be provided letters to verify their volunteer hours.**

Students are welcome to email Kristen.Peck@crossroadshospice.org  and cc Shalon.Morrison@crossroadshospice.org. Kristen will work with students to confirm a position and will also ensure they are provided with appropriate resources and training that will equip them for event day.

​School District No. 43 (Coquitlam)’s International Education Program is seeking volunteers for its Summer School Programs from 8:30am-12:00pm, July 7 – August 8, 2025. 

International students participate in English as a Second Language classes in the morning and may also participate in afternoon cultural activities. Alternately, international students may enroll in credit courses and be working toward graduation requirements instead. 

Both summer school programs run at Pinetree Secondary School. 

The successful candidate would ideally:

• take initiative and approach students they don’t know 

• possess good leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills

 • be proficient with the English language 

• have experience with a second language

 • be reliable and trustworthy

Note: first aid certification, experience working with international students, and knowledge of Mandarin, Spanish or Korean are assets. Students outside of the aforementioned criteria will also be considered.

​The festival runs Saturday, May 3, from 11am until 3pm, and they need people to help set up starting at 8am. They will do their best to rotate shifts so that volunteers have the opportunity to work in different areas, especially popular roles such as the bucket brigade.

Set up from 8am
Registration from 10am
Festival starts at 11am
Festival finishes at 3pm
Taking down from 3pm (usually until 4/5)

All volunteers must be 16 or older to volunteer with us during the festival.

Volunteer Roles

Volunteer Registration

Putting up directional posters prior to the festival start, marking volunteer names off the list, handing out nametags and meal tickets, giving duties to people that may turn up unexpectedly. Helping the public with questions, directions and taking care of and making announcements regarding lost children.

Helping with Salmon release

Helping children to release the salmon and ensuring they are pouring them into the water and not from a height. Collecting empty buckets and returning them to the hatchery. Making sure nobody, including other volunteers, enter the water. Volunteers in this role should have some hatchery experience.

​Working in the rink

​Helping set up the tables and chairs, helping groups set up (including those that require electricity on the outer circle), speaking with exhibitors and providing them with assistance, looking for lost children, helping the public with directions. Work with the Exhibitor Liaison to ensure the smooth running of the festival.

Food tent

Helping set up the food tent, cook the food, set up the tables, money and ticket handling, handing out food and drinks. Also providing exhibitors and volunteers with their free lunch and refreshments. If you have FoodSafe, please let us know!

​Buggy Valet

We have an area set aside for buggy’s and you give a ticket to parents and put the other half of the ticket on their buggy. Watch over the buggies and match their ticket to their buggy ticket and hand it over.

​Runner

The person that does this role will move around the festival and will work closely with the Volunteer Liaison help out wherever he/she can.

​Place des Arts’ Summer Fun! program runs for six weeks from July 7 – August 15, 2025, and offers a variety of visual and performing arts camps. They are looking for responsible, caring, and committed volunteers interested in working with children ages 5-12 years. Must be 13+. You must be available for an in-person orientation on July 2.

Your tasks will include the following:

• Welcoming students each day
• Assisting the teacher with classroom set up and clean up
• Escorting students to and from the classroom
• Reinforcing behaviour policy
• Working one-on-one with students who need support
• Supervising students in the classroom, and during break times and transitions

​Gain great experience while having fun! Volunteers are an important part of camp success. Volunteers are treated like staff and are expected to maintain a good work ethic by assisting all staff and providing a fun and safe learning atmosphere for campers.

Volunteers should be 14 years old or over, energetic, enthusiastic, responsible, and a team player. Volunteers can choose to volunteer for 1 or more weeks during the mornings or full day sessions. Since Royal Soccer is a not-for-profit organization, it’s also great for getting any needed community service hours for those who may need it for school.​

Are you hoping to ​get started collecting some volunteer hours and leadership/teaching experience? Apply as a Junior Instructor!

Various locations in Burnaby, Coquitlam, and Port Coquitlam. The closest one is usually at Queen of All Saint's School on Como Lake.

Volunteer requirements: 
1) Must be between the ages of 13 to 16 years old.  
2) Able to comfortably ride your bike for a minimum of 1 hour with few breaks 
3) Able to successfully shoulder check while riding in a straight line for 30 meters 
4) Able to a hand signal for a minimum of 3 seconds without swerving 
5) Able to successfully ride up and down hills while maintaining a consistent speed 

What volunteers will do:  
During camp, volunteers will be paired up with an experienced instructor to provide leadership, motivation, encouragement, and comfort to the kids under your care. Volunteers will ride with the classes, and participate in games, activities, and drills. Volunteers can sign up to come to camp for a week (Tuesday-Friday) for either half or full days at all our locations.  

How the application works:  
Please note that this application does not guarantee a spot. Once we receive your application, we will review it to confirm you meet the requirements and have space. If you are confirmed to volunteer, you will be invited to complete your onboarding and training. Once completed you will be sent your volunteer schedule based on your availability and the requirements of your camp.

​"We are a non-profit that has been providing outdoor-based camps for ages 5-12 and other programs in the Tri-Cities since 2019. Our goal is to empower and inspire youth and create community. We are always looking for kind, patient, and respectful people to volunteer. We hope that our strongest volunteers eventually become staff.

Our activities at camp include swimming, boating, active games, sports, table games, arts and crafts, talent shows, and more based on the interests of participants. Our out-trips include places such as White Pine Beach, Lafarge Lake, the Coquitlam River, Zone Bowling, Crash Crawly's (when heavy rain is forecast), and pools, parks, and playgrounds throughout the Tri-Cities.

In the summer, we are also offering a North Burnaby-based camp (out-trips to Barnet Marine Park Beach, Confederation Park, and more), as well as one-week camps in New Westminster/South Burnaby (out-trips to Queen's Park, Moody Park Pool, and more) and Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge (out-trips to Harris Road Park and Pool, Maple Ridge Park, and more)."

 The Fraser River Discovery Centre (FRDC), in New Westminster BC, is an interpretive centre and not-for-profit organization that presents stories of the living, working Fraser River and their contributions to the life, history, and future of British Columbia, through exhibits, education programs, and special events.

Summer Camp Assistant:
Under the direction of the FRDC Education team, you will perform a range of duties at the FRDC, all 
designed to connect summer campers with the Fraser River Basin!
Responsibilities:
• Provide campers with a fun, interactive, and memorable experience.
• Assist with summer camp activity preparation and set-up.
• Facilitate/lead summer camp activities.
Time Commitment:
• Summer Camp Volunteers are required to complete a minimum of 60 hours over the course of 
8 weeks (from July to August).
