Eligibility: 

​Open to female students in the Metro Vancouver schools who are completing grade 12 and are children of refugees or immigrants to Canada.

Applicants must be interested in pursuing a career in social work, education, psychology, nursing or social service and possess academic grades sufficient to allow admission into their chosen area of study/educational facility and demonstrate financial need.​

This scholarship is now closed.

The Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship is awarded to 20 outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment to and aptitude for a career in K–12 teaching.

Students selected for this award receive a $5,000 scholarship voucher from the Ministry of Education and Child Care that can be reimbursed for paid tuition after attending an approved teacher education program in the Faculty of Education at a B.C. post-secondary institution. To qualify, the program must lead to eligibility to apply for a B.C. teaching certificate and teach in the K–12 school system in this province.

Students have 7 years to redeem their Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship vouchers; an expiry date is printed on each voucher and extensions are not possible.

Key dates

  • February 17, 2026: Online applications for 2026 scholarships due by 3 pm
  • Early June 2026: Conditional recipients and their schools notified by email
  • September 2026: Conditional recipients checked against eligibility requirements
  • October 2026: Paper scholarship vouchers mailed to confirmed recipients

Eligibility requirements

Students selected as conditional recipients of the Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship must meet the following requirements by August 31 of their graduating year to be confirmed as a recipient and receive their scholarship voucher:  

  • Meet core eligibility requirements
  • Be eligible for a B.C. Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma)
  • Fulfill the requirements of the B.C. Graduation Program
  • Have the following final marks
    • Minimum “B” average in grades 11 and 12 courses required for graduation
    • Minimum "B" (73% or above) in Language Arts 12
    • Minimum “B” average, no more than one "C+" (67% or above), and no marks lower than “C+” in courses that fulfill graduation requirements for Science 11 or 12, Math 11, and Social Studies 11 or 12

Note: Students may apply for both the Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship and the BC Excellence scholarship, but can be awarded only one.  

How applications are evaluated

  1. Written statements are assessed by a team of B.C. teachers using the marking guidelines (PDF, 201KB)  
  2. Approximately 40 candidates are shortlisted for further consideration
  3. The resumes for those shortlisted candidates are assessed by a different team of B.C. teachers
  4. Reference letters are used for consideration when scoring resumes
  5. 20 students are selected by consensus as conditional recipients

How to prepare

Students interested in applying for the Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship are encouraged to get organized well before the application deadline of 3 pm on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

  • Make a checklist of the required information you will need to submit through the online application form (see Required Documentation below)
  • Prepare and complete each document offline; you will not be able to save your work halfway through the online submission process
  • Open the online application ahead of time to ensure your browser is supported  
  • Submit your application by the deadline
  • Ensure that you have a plan to meet all eligibility requirements
  • Remember that only those selected as conditional recipients will receive notice in June

Required documentation

Here are the detailed instructions for the 3 types of documentation you will need to have ready to complete your application.

3.    Two reference letters

  • Save these reference letter instructions (PDF, 292KB)
  • Share the instructions with your two referees and have them return signed letters to you (make sure each has an ink or electronic signature) 
  • Scan or save digital copies of both letters
  • Be ready to upload both letters as part of your online application
  • Some referees may prefer to submit a letter directly to the ministry; in this case, you must upload to the application a brief, informal note from you in its place that states your referee will email their reference directly to scholarships@gov.bc.ca by the deadline

Ready to submit? Be prepared to complete the application in one session without closing the browser. You will be able to toggle back and forth in one session, but you will not be able to save your application online.

Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship 

Students should inform their high schools of any address changes. In the fall, the ministry mails paper scholarship vouchers to recipients using the home addresses reported by schools.

The Theatre Society Legacy Fund (TSLF) Arts Education Bursary is for a student who is enrolled at a recognized post-secondary institution in a formal arts program anywhere in the world. 


Arts is defined as a creative activity that expresses imaginative or technical skills. It produces a product or an object. The product/object of art is called a work of art, for other to experience. It includes drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, digital art, performance art, dance, music, poetry, prose, theatre, and culinary arts.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible to apply for the TSLF Arts Education Bursary you must meet the following requirements:
•  must be enrolled in an undergraduate program OR any year of a post-graduate program at a recognized post-secondary institution in a formal performing arts program anywhere in the world
•  demonstrate academic merit and financial need
•  short essay (max 500 words) Arts – Why This Is My Future
•  summary of your previous and current involvement in Arts (max 300 words)
•  have not received the TSLF Arts Bursary in the previous academic year

​The Education Awards Program helps residents (17 years of age and older in a household directly receiving subsidy from BC Housing or receiving rental assistance through the Rental Assistance Program (RAP) at the start of courses pursue their educational goals as a way to achieve success and personal growth. The bursaries and awards are for post-secondary education and training programs.

Five education awards and bursaries are offered. Apply for as many awards as you're eligible for. One award a year is granted to each successful applicant based on academic achievement and financial need.

The application deadline for the TCF Refugee Award is January 31st of each year. Successful applicants will be notified within six weeks of the application deadline.

The TCF Refugee Award is for a refugee who has shown courage and determination while adapting to a new language and culture in Canada. It is valued at $3,000.

The TCF Refugee Award recognizes a student who:

  1. Entered Canada as a refugee
  2. Completed Grade 12 or the equivalent
  3. Studied English as an additional language since arriving in Canada
  4. Wishes to study in a vocational or academic program at a post-secondary institution in British Columbia

Applicants will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  2. Documented English language coursework at the secondary level
  3. Documented school or community volunteer service

  1. A description of the applicant’s life before and after coming to Canada

This grant acknowledges young women in Grade 12 who demonstrate that they make a difference in their community and/or school. The winner receives one of five $1,500 bursaries to help offset some of the costs of her post-secondary education. Preference goes to young women in the Tri-Cities, BC.
