Location: Sheffield Park, Burke Mountain, Coquitlam

This is a family-friendly, community-led event in partnership with the City of Coquitlam’s Park Spark program. Volunteers will help clean local parks and trails, supporting environmental stewardship while gaining valuable community experience.

​Highlights:

  • 3 official volunteer hours logged by the City of Coquitlam
  • Supplies provided by the Park Spark team
  • Great opportunity for students to contribute to their local community

Founded in 1972, Place des Arts is a not-for-profit arts centre and music school located in the historic Maillardville area of Coquitlam, BC. Place des Arts’ mission is to inspire the artist in everyone through our quality learning program and cultural experiences, our talented people and our warm welcoming environment. Each year, over 103,000 people experience the arts at Place des arts. In addition to offering classes in music, visual arts, literary arts, dance and performing arts, Place des Arts hosts a dynamic schedule of exhibitions, concerts and cultural events, with three galleries and an artisan shop that showcases local emerging artists.

Place de Arts’ Youth Arts Council was created to encourage local teens to engage within the arts community. The council organizes and hosts up to two youth oriented events each year and advises Place des Arts on teen engagement. This dedicated group of teen volunteers is eager to provide new and exciting opportunities for their peers to participate in the arts.

Youth Arts Council members will:

  • Attend and participate in 7 Youth Arts Council meetings and lead up to 2 events
  • Contribute to Council decision-making and discussions
  • Be a representative of Place des Arts at events and other initiatives
  • Assist Place des Arts in reviewing and developing recommendations for youth programs and events
  • Plan and attend a youth event in the spring

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Must be a grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 student in Fall 2025 
  • Strong interest in the arts (ie. Visual Arts, music, dance, performing arts and/or literary arts)
  • Interest in developing leadership skills
  • Interest in developing skills related to event planning and/or marketing
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment, listen to others, share ideas and help make decisions
  • Positive, respectful attitude
  • Willingness to learn
  • Resides in and/or attending school in the Tri-Cities
  • Asset: Past or current Place des Arts student or volunteer

Time Commitment:

  • Attend all Council meetings from November to May (total 7): Fridays Nov 7, Dec 5, Jan 9, Feb 6, Mar 13, Apr 10 and May 8 from 4:00 – 5:30 PM at Place des Arts.
  • Attend at least 2 events at Place des Arts
    • Sunday February 8, 1:00-3:00 PM: Family Day @ PdA
      • YAC members will facilitate an art activity at this free event to learn more about event planning, logistics, the PdA space and running an events booth.
  • Friday, May 1, 5:00 – 7:00 PM: YAC Event, Title TBD
    • YAC will plan, implement, promote and facilitate a free arts-based event for teens at Place des Arts.
