Local School Trustee Elections 2026
Local school trustee elections provide an important opportunity for the community to help shape and strengthen public education in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra. Trustees are locally elected representatives who work together as a Board of Education to provide governance, oversight and strategic direction for the school district.
The School District No. 43 Board of Education is comprised of:
- Four trustees representing Coquitlam
- Two trustees representing Port CoquitlamTrustee Election Bylaw 2026.pdf
- Two trustees representing Port Moody
- One trustee representing Anmore/Belcarra
Trustees are elected every four years as part of the general local elections, held at the same time as elections for mayor and city council. The next election will take place on October 17, 2026.

School trustees serve as members of the Board of Education and are responsible for governing the school district. For a description of the role and responsibilities of trustees, including governance, collective decision-making and accountability, see Policy 3 - Role of the Trustee.

So You Want to Be a Trustee in SD43
To support community members interested in serving as a school trustee, we are pleased to host So You Want to Be a Trustee in SD43 on September 3 at 1:00 PM at the Education Learning Center (1080 Winslow Avenue). This session will be led by Superintendent Nadine Tambellini and Secretary-Treasurer Nita Mikl, and will feature special guest presenter Jordan Tinney. Jordan is a retired superintendent who is currently working with the BC School Superintendents Association (BCSSA) on governance initiatives. He will provide valuable insight into the role, responsibilities, and scope of work of school trustees. We look forward to supporting and informing those interested in contributing to educational governance in our district.

How the election works [+]
School trustee elections are governed by provincial legislation, including the School Act, Local Government Act and Local Elections Campaign Financing Act, along with the Board's Trustee Election Bylaw (2026). Trustee elections in SD43 are administered by:
- The City of Coquitlam
- The City of Port Coquitlam
- The City of Port Moody
- The Villages of Anmore and Belcarra
