Trustees

The School District No. 43 (Coquitlam) Board of Education is comprised of nine trustees, who are elected every four years at the same time as the mayor and city council for the municipalities. The Board of Education trustees are elected by voters in the City of Coquitlam (4), City of Port Coquitlam (2), city of Port Moody (2), Village of Anmore/Village of Belcarra (1).

Carol Brodie

Elected in the City of Coquitlam

Carol Brodie has resided in the Tri-Cities for 26 years and is the proud mother of two SD43 graduate students, who participated in both the Montessori and French Immersion programs. A third term Trustee, she has served as the Board Vice-Chair, an Audit and Finance Committee member, and was appointed as the SD43 representative to the British Columbia School Trustee Association's Finance and Audit Committee. Ms. Brodie has also served as an SD43 Trustee Representative for the British Columbia School Trustees Association (BCSTA) Metro Board, English Language Learners Consortium, Coquitlam Foundation and the Tri-Cities Middle School Matters Committee. She also regularly attends Student Leadership Council (SLC) meetings, and District Parent Advisory (DPAC) meetings and frequents her liaison group of schools. 
Ms. Brodie is the Executive Director of the Coquitlam Foundation which encourages and supports creative, targeted philanthropy that builds a vibrant, sustainable, and healthy community, and is a Director on the board of PLEA Community Services which provides unique services to help children, youth, adults, and families who face significant challenges lead fulfilling lives within their communities. 
Carol believes that good governance, openness, continued fiscal accountability, stable, balanced budgets, being a strong public education advocate, and listening to and valuing stakeholders will continue strengthening the public education system.
Ms. Brodie believes all learners should receive an excellent education, no matter which public program they are in, and have a sense of belonging, inclusion, and feeling safe.

Chuck Denison

Elected in the City of Coquitlam

Chuck Denison was first elected to the Board of Education for the term 2014 to 2018 and was re-elected in 2022.
Chuck has a degree in Engineering Physics, and an Education degree with double type-A teaching certification.
Chuck is currently a business owner. Previously he was a corporate project manager, and earlier was a high school teacher.
Chuck has broad educational experience. His roles have included:
  • DPAC – President
  • PAC – President
  • BCCPAC – Participant
  • Coquitlam Foundation – Director, and member of their Awards Committee.
  • Toastmasters – Designated as “Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM)”, Area Director, Youth Leadership presenter, Club President and Treasurer, and recipient of a provincial award for “exemplifying Toastmasters Ideals”.
  • Created and taught “Scholarship Math 11” for honour students, with topics from applied physics.
  • Created and presented Student Leadership Training for numerous school Leadership executives and their advisors.
  • Presented a workshop at the Surrey School District Student Leadership Symposium.
  • Contributed to numerous SD43 Advisory Committees focusing on Special Needs including gifted and learning disabilities, Traffic Safety, Student Achievement, and provided feedback on an Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement.
As a past School Board Trustee, finances were stabilized, relationships with cities and partner groups were strengthened, and student mental health was better supported. Continuing support will enhance all these areas.
Our students will become tomorrow’s leaders. We can encourage them to achieve their full potential.

Rosey Manhas (Vice Chair)

Elected in the City of Coquitlam

Rosey Manhas is a passionate advocate for education in Coquitlam, with extensive experience in school and community leadership. As a long-time volunteer, she has served in various roles, including PAC Chair, DPAC Vice President and most recently DPAC President, to enhance parent engagement and collaboration. Rosey is dedicated to ensuring equitable, supportive learning environments for all students. In addition, she volunteers with youth soccer and is an active member of the grants committee at the Coquitlam Foundation, helping to support local initiatives that make a difference. Professionally, she has worked as a medical radiation technologist for over 25 years.
Rosey believes in the power of collaboration between schools, families, and the broader community. She is committed to fostering strong partnerships to ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive, both in the classroom and beyond.

Kerri Palmer Isaak

Elected in the Villages of Anmore and Belcarra

Kerri Palmer Issak completed a six year term with the Village of Anmore Municipal Council and served as SD43 Board of Education Vice Chair in 2015.
 
 She is a Leader for Anmore Youth in Action and a mother of two daughters. She has also served in other leadership capacities within her community, including past Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) Chair at Eagle Mountain Middle School, Moody Middle School and Anmore Elementary School. Ms. Palmer Isaak has served as Chair of Anmore Youth Social Recreation Committee, on the Metro Board Regional Plan and Agriculture Committee and the Village Finance Committee. In the past she was a Sasamat Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) Trustee, the President of Friendly Forest Parent Co-operative Preschool and a member of the Recreation Task Force for Anmore/Port Moody.
 
Mrs. Palmer Isaak is experienced and engaged with many aspects of the public school system and represents both villages while working with fellow trustees and school district staff.

Lisa Park

Elected in the City of Port Moody

Lisa Park immigrated from South Korea 22 years ago and has made British Columbia her home. As a primary school teacher in School District No. 41, she demonstrates her belief that every individual deserves a good education. 
Ms. Park has taught in various schools and institutions in Alberta and British Columbia and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education, a Bachelor of Education, and a TESOL certificate. She is also qualified as an Exercise Rehabilitation trainer and is an avid advocate for active and healthy living. 
 
 Ms. Park believes the public education system should provide great education for all students, their parents, and families.

Christine Pollock

Elected in the City of Port Coquitlam

This is Christine's second term representing Port Coquitlam. She retired in 2017 from a 30-year career as an Education Assistant in SD43 supporting students at the elementary, middle school and senior secondary levels. Her last ten years in SD43 were spent in the Learning Services Department as part of the Inclusion Support Team supporting students with behavioural challenges, both in the classroom and through outreach.

Michael Thomas (Chair)

Elected in the City of Port Coquitlam

Michael Thomas was first elected as a School Trustee in 2014 and proudly represents the Port Coquitlam community. He has served as Board Chair since 2021, helping to lead the Board and set direction for the District. He is committed to making sure students have the support and opportunities they need to succeed.

He brings both personal and professional experience to his role as a father of three, a business owner, and a technology professional who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Technology Management from BCIT.

During his time on the Board, Michael is proud to have supported the rebuilding of several schools and to have helped more than double the number of Education Assistants in the District, improving both school facilities and the day-to-day support available to students.

Michael is a strong supporter of student safety and has worked to move the seismic safety program forward, recognizing the importance of safe and secure schools for all students and staff.
Michael has been involved in the community for many years. He is an active volunteer with a local school breakfast program, supporting student well-being in a practical way. His community volunteerism has included serving as a DPAC Director, a PoCo Soccer Coach, a Director of PoCo Heritage, and working on local initiatives such as Emergency Preparedness, the May Day Task Force, PoCo’s Transportation and Operations committee, and the Port Coquitlam Spirit Committee. He is also a Past Master of Blue Mountain Lodge #182.

He believes that strong public schools help build a healthy and connected community, and he remains focused on making decisions that support students and families across the District.

Craig Woods

Elected in the City of Coquitlam

Craig Woods has lived in Coquitlam with his wife and two children since 2004. An active member of the community, Craig participated in his children's school's PAC (Parent Advisory Committee), applying his experience in non-profit social services and education & training.
Craig eventually served as the SD43 District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) President for over five school years (2014-2018) and was recognized by the BC Confederation of PACs (BCCPAC) for his volunteerism and commitment to supporting parents in SD43. 
Since being elected School Board Trustee in 2018, Craig has served as Board Vice-Chair, Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, and has helped to shape the district's strategic plan. Craig currently serves as the DPAC Liaison to the Board, is a Coquitlam Foundation Board Director, and supports the Mental Health Task Force to help bring mental health resources into our schools and our community.
