"This beautiful cedar log washed up on the beach. I plan to turn it into a canoe. It will take a long time and a lot of work. I will use a hand adze to shape the outside of the canoe and then hollow out the inside. To make the side wider (and the canoe more stable), I will put water in the canoe and use hot rocks to make the cedar softer and easy to bend. Wooden spreaders will help me push the sides out wider than the log. Then the artistic work begins with carving and painting to create a truly useful and beautiful object."
