End of Semester Schedule Adjustments
Traditionally at the end of the first semester, there have always been 5 days before the start of the second semester in order for students to catch up on missing work, attend tutorials, write Provincial exams, and for grade 12’s to complete their GTP Interviews. While students did not attend regularly scheduled days, school was, nonetheless, a very busy place: many students were in attendance, teachers marked and supervised the Provincial exams, and met in departments and as a collective at school adjudication meetings- meetings that focused on ensuring student success in the second semester by ensuring appropriate course placement and developing plans for student success. Due to a reduction in the number of Provincial exams, the Ministry has now set aside only three days for exams. As a result, it will be very difficult for us to do everything we need to do, including course changes and planning, in preparation for a smooth semester two start.
We need the timely completion of final marks; therefore, all students who need to catch up or who require extra time to complete tasks, must have everything in order with their teachers by Friday, January 25th. That gives all students just under two weeks to get their affairs in order.
In addition, to improve the flexibility which will be required to meet all student and teachers’ needs, the class schedule for Thursday, January 24th and Friday January 25th will be altered. While the total time within each class remains about the same, the added length of the class and the prolonged tutorial opportunity should allow all students and teachers to address any issues, and it should provide the appropriate time required for completion of projects or large in class exams. The schedule for the final three days is as follows:
Wed, Jan 23 will be a regular tutorial day.
Thursday, Jan 24 Friday, Jan 25
8:25-10:15 Tutorial Period 3
10:20-12:10 Period 1 Period 4
12:15-1:15 Lunch Lunch
1:20-3:10 Period 2 Period 5
Thank-you for your understanding and your feedback on how things went would be very appreciated once we are done.
