The 5th annual Terry Fox Term 1 Chess Championship was played out this Saturday, and what an event it was! With 76 kids and even 3 parents competing, it was truly a special event! Perhaps, our principle described it best when she said “Its quiet intensity is invigorating!” Students from 3 different chess classes came together—on a Saturday—to play the game we all love, had fun, and in doing so made some wonderful connections with others who share in their passion. However, in the end, it was Woochan Park, a grade 12 student who has been under Mr. Radic’s tutelage for 4 years now, who won the prestigious event. That being said, it was a tight tournament with many students achieving their personal best. We can hardly wait until the end of term 2 when we get to do it all over again! Congratulations to all the students, parents, and volunteers who competed and helped make this event so special.
