āāāCURRENT GRADUATION PROGRAM
In order to meet graduation requirements and be awarded a British Columbia Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood) students must earn a minimum of 80 credits to graduate. The Graduation Program link below provides a brief overview of the requirements for graduation.
This is a special message for grade 12 students and parents regarding the 2021 graduation.
Graduation is a milestone that each of us remember fondly, and while
COVID will impact and change the traditional activities we usually
enjoy, it is our pledge to you that we will do what we can to make this
event memorable.
It should come as no surprise, but we cannot offer a Dinner-Dance,
after-grad event or a Grad Cruise this year. PHO orders against such
gatherings are still in effect and even if they were to be lifted in the
spring, the time required to book and organize just wouldnāt be there.
While there will be no after grad event, we do have parents
interested in fund-raising to enhance the commencement and provide
mementos to the grads. Our parent contact is Lisa Currier lisacurrier@shaw.ca. She is asking parents who want to support this effort to contact her directly.
We also have a new Terry Fox PAC Facebook Page that will be helping us share information. You are encouraged to visit the page and sign up.
2021 Commencement Plan
As you recall last year, we offered a drive-through
commencement where students had the opportunity to cross a stage and
family members had the chance to watch this special event. A similar style commencement is in the works for the upcoming year and we have scheduled Wednesday June 23rd as our Commencement Ceremony day.
We will begin to work out the details in the upcoming weeks and while the Drive-Through commencement is our current plan, should the PHO lift restrictions and if we are given more flexibility we will do our best to reflect that relaxation in our planning.
Some other things to consider:
- Grads will have a Valedictorian as selected by their peers
- Grads will have a cap and gown to keep
- Grads will have great and moving speeches to inspire you
- Grads will have decorations
- Grads will have input: please bring any suggestions about how to make Grad the best it can be to Ms. Fridge and/or Ms. D'Alfonso
The Grad fee this year is $50 which covers the cost
of a cap and gown and goes a little way towards the cost of decorations
and rentals and some potential grad swag. This fee is on your School
Cash Online account.
Grads will have some work to do before Grad. Most importantly
they will need to complete their Capstone and CLC as they are Grad
Requirements. Please read below:
All grade 12 students are enrolled in Career-Life Connections 12 (CLC
12) which is a 4-credit course required for graduation. Each student is
on a CLC 12 Microsoft Team where they can find explanations for their
assignments and course work. During monthly Flex classes, grade 12
students and their CLC 12 teacher have been working on strengthening
self-awareness, refining employability skills, and planning for life
after graduation.
In March, our grads will be offered a workshop on financial literacy
to support some of that planning. But the most exciting part of CLC 12
is the Capstone Project. We hope your child has connected with you about
their Capstone Project ideas. If they havenāt, please strike up a
conversation with them about it!
The Capstone Project (and sharing of it through the CLC Presentation)
is the final assessment for CLC 12, worth 50% of the course grade. All
components of the project are due no later than Tuesday June 1st, 2021.
The Capstone Projects are student-designed and personal to each
studentās career-life motivations, and so they can take many forms. For
examples and more information on the Capstone Project and CLC
Presentation, please see your childās CLC 12 Team or contact their CLC
12 teacher.
By our MARCH 19th Deadline:
- Grads will need to sign up to confirm attendance
- Grads will need to submit their height for a cap and gown
- Grads will need to write a short message for us to read out as they cross the stage
Also- you will need to work with Ms. DāAlfonso and squad for Legacy
and you will need to connect with Ms. El to make sure you let her know
about your scholarships so we can add them to the school total and
celebrate the genius that is you.
THE BEST WAY FOR GRADS TO CONNECT AND GET INFORMATION IS TO
SIGN UP FOR THE GRAD TEAMS TFSGRAD2021. IF STUDENTS NEED ANY HELP
CONNECTING TO THAT TEAM THEY CAN SEE THEIR CLC TEACHER IMMEDIATELY.
There will be a specific commencement Link on the TFS Website put up soon. That will be your hub for grad information.
Grads: This is the beginning of significant amount
of very important information. Your CLC teachers will be your main
source of information so please make certain you are checking your Teams
on a regular basis.
Parents can also email Ms. Passaglia at terryfoxgrad2021@gmail.com if they want to help in any way as well.ā
