Lessons

All students, regardless of ability, must take the lessons.  On Wednesday, February 7, just before the first lesson, the Cypress Mountain instructors will divide students into groups according to ability, with no more than 8 students per group.

Safety

Before heading up the mountain, students will be shown a safety video.  As well, they will be instructed not to go over large jumps, go out of bounds, go on runs beyond their ability, or try any dangerous tricks or stunts.  Please reinforce these messages and go over safety info from the web.  Students must wear a helmet on the mountain.  Helmets are included with all downhill packages.

The Alpine Responsibility Code can be found at:   http://cypressmountain.com/mountain-safety

Clothing:

PLEASE PUT YOUR CHILD'S NAME ON CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT.  STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN BELONGINGS ON THE MOUNTAIN.

Students need the following gear:

  • Warm head covering that will cover the ears and fit comfortably under a helmet

  • A helmet (if not renting one)

  • Warm and layerable tops such as turtleneck shirt, sweatshirt or sweater, and a warm jacket
  • Ski goggles
  • Waterproof jacket or shell
  • Sweatpants or long johns (jeans are not recommended)
  • Waterproof ski pants
  • Ski gloves
  • A watch or cellphone
  • Warm socks and footwear suitable for a slushy parking lot
  • An extra change of clothes (in case you get wet)

Rentals and Lessons at Mountain (1:00pm-4:00pm)

Students will be given a safety briefing at the mountain.  Students renting equipment need to get and put on their rental equipment.  Once students have their equipment, students will head off to their meeting places for lessons.  Students gather at the meeting places for lessons where they will be divided by ability by instructors. Instructors will work with up to 8 students to improve their skills.  Students should ask instructors for suggestions about good runs for their skill level.

Free time for dinner and ski / snowboard practice (4:00pm-6:30pm)
Students have 2.5 hours to have dinner (brought from home or purchased on the mountain) and practice their skills with a partner.  Once the lessons are completed, students are responsible for being on the bus for attendance before 6:50pm!  All students must be with a partner when skiing or snowboarding during free time - no exceptions.  Students need a watch or cellphone to keep track of time.

Rental returns by 6:30pm and Attendance on the Bus at 6:50pm

Students will start returning rental gear by 6:30 pm and be on the bus ready for attendance by 6:50 pm. Please do not be late for attendance.

Pick-up at 8:00 pm

Parents, please be waiting at Scott Creek to pick up your child by 8:00pm as we will have had a long day and will be looking forward to getting home.  Many students use their cell phones to call parents on the bus ride home.  The busses will be coming down the top driveway and parking right in front of the school, so please do not park where you will block their progress.

If Cypress cancels any ski sessions due to inclement weather conditions we will attempt to reschedule the sessions.  The policy of the Cypress Mountain School Program is that refunds are not available under any circumstances.  If students miss sessions due to illness etc. 'Snowcheques' will be issued to these students at the end of the program.  A 'Snowcheque' is a voucher that is good for one lift ticket and rental equipment (if paid for
