Practice location: Scott Creek Middle School
We will have a strong coaching staff, including coaches from our middle schools as well as possible community coaches. Practices aim to end at 4:30pm.
Tournament location: Scott Creek Middle School
All middle school teams will play at Scott Creek Middle School. Tournaments aim to end by 4:45pm.
Team Commitment and Safety:
Rugby is a team sport that involves learning together to enjoy the sport safely. Players are expected to make every effort to be at all practices. If a player cannot attend a practice, please let the coaches know beforehand when possible. Attendance at practice is expected for playing in games.
Law variations in Middle School:
1. We will be following the laws of World Rugby which can be found online.
http://laws.worldrugby.org/
2. Scrums will be no push but Hookers are allowed to hook for either side's ball
3. Line outs will not be boosted
4. Penalties - for tapping and passing or tap and go situation, the ball carrier must run at a 45 degree angle until contact, and then regular north/south lanes can be maintained. Reason for this – safety/protection of players
5. Converts can be taken if the facility can provide uprights. If not, tries will be the only method of scoring.
6. Drop kicking only for game starts and re-starts.
7. 12 player teams will be the standard for league play
9. 5 player scrum- front row and locks
10. 2nd rows acting like number 8 may pick up ball in scrum
11. Scrum Half is allowed to pass the ball without interference unless he/she runs with the ball
12. School teams play multiple 30-minute games. Grade 6/7 boys play multiple 15-minute games.
