IB Programme Registration Information

PMSS IB Applications 2025:

Please be advised that as a School District 43 programme of choice, for grade 9, priority is given first to Canadian and Permanent Resident students living in SD 43, then to those living outside SD 43, and then to international students.

Each year we may have a limited number of placements available for grade 10 or grade 11 students. The procedure for these students will be similar to that for grade 9 applicants, though the assessment expectations will be different and the timeline will be different.

To recover the additional costs of the programme, PMSS will charge a flat fee each year in grade 9, and 10. In grade 12, we will charge the exam registration fees as assessed by the IBO.

Step 1:

Attend one of our information nights in the gym at Port Moody Secondary:

December 3rd and December 4th  7:00 pm

Determine if the IB Programme is the best choice to meet your secondary school educational needs. There are a wide variety of excellent programmes available to all students of School District 43.

Information about the IB Diploma can be found online at www.ibo.org.

For information specific to Port Moody's implementation of the Diploma and our Pre-DP grade 9 and 10 classes, see the course selection information on this website.

If you have any further questions, contact Mr. Sean Lenihan (slenihan@sd43.bc.ca), the I.B. Coordinator, at the school for information.

Step 2:

Complete the two online application forms linked below before 4:00 pm on December 20th.

These forms will not be available until December 3rd.

Teacher referral form:

Either pick up a copy in person at the information sessions or download (after December 3rd), print and provide a copy of the confidential teacher referral to a current teacher. The teacher will complete the form, seal into an envelope, sign the back flap, and return to the student who will bring it with them to the intake assessment session on January 18th.

We will not be requiring a student report card.

Step 3:

Attend the testing session on Saturday January 18th, 2025 at PMSS. Details will be sent to you in January with a final communication before the 18th.

Only applicants who submit applications by the December 20th (4:00 pm) deadline will be permitted to participate in one of the testing sessions. If your application is not received on time, we recommend that you re-apply for the 2026-27 school year.

We plan to hold 4 different types of assessment:

Mathematics- 60 minutes, general mathematical ability test, not connected to any grade level or curriculum

Writing- 45 minutes, English language response

Reading- 45 minutes, English language comprehension

Interactive Creativity- 45 minutes, small group problem solving task

There are no pre-exam prep materials such as study guides available. Please do not contact PMSS requesting exam specific information or study guides.

Step 4:

All applicants will be contacted as to the status of their applications by email on January 24th at 4 pm. If you do not receive notification, please check your junk mail folder. If you do not receive an email, contact the school on Monday, January 27th. Occasionally, it has been our experience that email address have been misreported on the application.

Step 5:

Successful applicants will confirm their acceptance of the offer by email to PMSS by February 6th , 2025 by 4:00 pm. A non-response to the offer will be understood to be a decline, and we will proceed to the next student on the waitlist.

Step 6:

Course selection for second language and electives will take place online before the end of February- more details to come.

Applying for admission for grade 10 or grade 11

Please keep in mind that there will be a very limited number of spaces available for entry into the Pre-Diploma 10 or IB 11 from outside our Pre-DIploma 9 intake. This number is decided purely by the number of spaces which become available as we keep our programme at 150 students per grade.

Applications will become available on this website above on December 3rd and must be submitted before December 20th.

Assessments will be held Monday, February 3rd at 2:00 at Port Moody Secondary. This assessment will focus on mathematics, writing and reading. There may also be an interview or group task assessment depending upon the number of applicants.

Decisions about placement will be sent out February 21st.
