We would like to update you on a change to our school culture that has an impact upon all students and families.
This past weekend in our weekly newsletter, The Current, we expressed our concern about the growing impact of cellphone/ personal devices on the social skills and relationship development of our students. Since the start of school, we have expected and have received from our student body a very positive response to this new school wide expectation.
We have instructed students not to use their cellphones/ personal devices between the hours of 8:40 – 3:00 and in particular to not use or have access to these devices during their free time of Nutrition Break and Lunch. Students are instructed to keep their cell phones/ personal devices secured in their locker at all times. If these tools are needed, then their teacher will instruct them on when and how best to use this equipment for enhancing their studies.
For parents who have been accustomed to texting their children throughout the day and then receiving an immediate response from them, this will be a major mind shift in practices. Please use the school Office Staff to help communicate serious and emergency messages to your child by phoning 604-939-7367 and our Office Staff will direct the message to your child at an appropriate time.
Please take a moment to read an excerpt from our Sept 12th newsletter pertaining to this topic. Please check under Documents in the link shown below
Our students have started this year with a positive understanding and have shown respectful practices that we expect will continue with your support.
