Dear Parents and Students,
Today Fraser Health informed us that we have had a confirmed case of the measles at Terry Fox. Our students and staff may have been exposed to the measles while at Fox between March 30 and April 2, 2015. Fraser Health issued a five page document outlining the current information about Measles, its vaccine, and its symptoms, as well as a Fraser Health consent form for Immunizations.
We held our classes during D block in an attempt to distribute paper copies of the information and the Fraser Health consent from Fraser Health.
They ask that you review your child's immunization record. Most people are protected from the measles either by immunization, or by having measles infection in the past. If you are immune you cannot carry the disease to someone else.
Tomorrow, April 10th, Fraser Health will be here to check on our students' health records. If you have proof of immunization that you can send with your child that would certainly help Fraser Health with their process. If you do not have proof, the health nurses will be able to search this information through your child's name and birthdate. If your child requires vaccination, and you provide Fraser Health with a signed consent form (sent home today and available here and in the enews), the health nurses will be able to immunize them here at school tomorrow. Students will be called down by grade (alpha) starting at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work with Fraser Health.
