Take Our Kids to WorkTM is an annual national program in which Grade 9 students are hosted by parents, friends, relatives, and volunteers at workplaces across the country every November. The date this year is Wednesday, November 1st, 2023. The program supports career development by helping students connect school, the world of work, and their own futures. More than 250,000 students and 75,000 organizations take part every year across Canada, from Nunavut to Newfoundland participate in the program.
It is an opportunity for students to explore career options, through:
· Understanding the importance of staying in school by learning first-hand what skills are required in today’s workplace
· Thinking about what aspects of their “workday” they liked and what they didn’t
· Exploring career options in a practical way and gain a better understanding of just how many career choices are open to them
· By spending a day in the life of a working adult, they develop an appreciation of their parents’ work and motivations

It is up to the grade 9 parents and student to find their work locations. Students who are attending this event will not be negatively impacted (i.e., tests for grade 9 will not be scheduled on this day).
If your grade 9 child would like to attend your workplace, or that of another family member, please note the process required:
(1) Download the Consent Form - completed forms are due by Monday, October 30th to the hand-in box at the Riverside Office reception desk
(2) Download the Assignment – involves interviewing the person they are job shadowing as well as reflecting on their day. Completion of this assignment is required for HCE 9 (Health and Career Education 9)
If a grade 9 student is unable to find a location to visit, they are expected to be at school engaging in education activities on November 1st. They are required to download and complete an alternate assignment for HCE 9.
Completed HCE Assignments are due no later than November 15, 2023 to the hand-in box at the Riverside Office reception desk.
