March 2022
Welcome to Walton Elementary!
After two years of maneuvering through the COVID pandemic, it seems restrictions are soon to be lifted! Will there be a light at the end of the COVID tunnel? We certainly hope so since we miss assemblies, special events, live, in-person concerts, after school activities and clubs, buddy activities, hot lunches, etc. With a school of this size, safety has been our first priority since the beginning of the pandemic, and I am very pleased and grateful for the manner in which our school community - staff, students and parents/guardians - has been navigating these difficult times. Well done, Walton!
Walton has one of the highest student populations in SD43. Roughly 55% of our students attend the Neighbourhood/English program and about 45% are enrolled in the Mandarin Bilingual program. Students in the Mandarin Bilingual program receive an equal amount of instructional time in both English and Mandarin.
As part of the Directions 2025 initiative, we are currently identifying and defining three goals in the following areas:
1) Intellectual Development: Reading; 2) Human and Social Development: Focus on personal Identity and valuing diversity.; 3) Indigenous Learners and Indigenous Ways of Learning: Indigenous Principles of Learning.
Best Regards,
